Anyone can make an ignorant and/or clumsy mistake; everyone does: But once a person realizes what they’re doing, continuing to do it anyway is a choice. Doubling down on mistakes transforms them into errors.
Note: That doesn’t legitimize ignorant mistakes, but does preclude moral value judgements of them. And we all know this as surely as we’ve all been told “You know better than that!” There’s the rub, isn’t it, folks… ?
As Fred Rogers once told the US Senate (et al,) we’ve been given an amazing gift in that, once we realize that we’re doing something harmful, we can stop doing that and do something good instead.
That’s ultimately what the Inn is all about, IMHO.
